I was under my 2002 S54 Coupe and noted there were ruber "donuts" on the rear springs. I cannot find any part number on them so I am not sure they are factory parts. There are 2 of them on the left and one is markedly cracked. On the right there is only one and it looks fine. Are these as OEM part and, if so, why are there 2 on one side and one on the other? The rest of the subframe looks fine and the car just turned past 22000 miles. The former owner doesn't know anything about aftermarket replacement of parts but he bought the car with about 10000 miles on it and only drove 3000 miles before I obtained the car. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated

They may be large rubber donuts used in shipping if they are inside the coil springs and should have been removed when the car was sold by the dealer

Dave...Thanks very much. I kind of suspected they might be some knd of shipping device to act like a "bump stop" on top of the shocks. Someone obvously placed two on the left an one on the rght and they were not removed by the dealer when the car underwent ts PDI. really appreciate all teh help from everyone on ths webste. Hopefully someday I'll have an answer that will help too

I used to know a guy who bought an E30 M3, but soon sold it because he hated the way it handled. Another friend bought it, discovered the spring spacers, and kept the car for over 20 years. I also remember seeing someone autocrossing an E30 M3 and the rubber spring spacers flying out from under the car during cornering.

Please tell us the car handles better now.
